Hall School Wimbledon admits pupils of a range of academic abilities, provided that they are judged capable of prospering within our school curriculum (mainstream academic). Pupils with Specific Learning Difficulties are admitted with the same proviso.
Hall School Wimbledon does not offer bursaries but may, occasionally, offer scholarships to gifted and talented children.
As we celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, Hall School Wimbledon is offering Jubilee Awards to all girls entering its Reception classes in September 2012.
1. Initial Enquiry
Parents seeking further information about Hall School Wimbledon are advised to visit this website, request a prospectus, or contact our Admissions Office on 020 8394 6144.
2. Visiting the School
We encourage all prospective parents to visit Hall School Wimbledon prior to registering a child for the school. A visit to the school during a normal school day enables parents to see the children in their lessons, to meet the class teachers and to get a real feel for HSW life. It also provides the opportunity to ask further questions either about the school or specific to your child.
We offer weekly Open Mornings for parents considering entry to the Reception class and individual or small group appointments for entry to all year groups (Reception – Year 6).
See Visiting the School for further information.
3. Registration
Parents formally register their interest in the school by completing a registration form and returning it to our Admissions Office, together with a non-refundable registration fee of £50. One fee is payable per family and therefore subsequent applications for siblings do not require additional payment.
Children may be registered for the school at any time, although registration does not provide a guaranteed offer of a place. Registration forms are usually handed to parents when they visit the school.
Parents must declare if their son or daughter has a learning difficulty or other disability that may require specialist arrangements and should provide any relevant information or documentation.
4. Assessment
Reception Entry:
Children are not assessed for September entry to our Reception class.
However, any applicants wishing to join the Reception class mid-year will be assessed on their literacy and numeracy skills and will be observed interacting with their peers prior to being offered a place.
Entry to Years 1 to 6:
Applicants for Years 1 to 6 are invited to visit the school to undertake assessments, which will typically include papers in English Comprehension, English Composition and Mathematics. Children are also asked to spend some time participating in lessons. This gives the school the opportunity to assess a child’s academic suitability and, at the same time, his or her compatibility with the other pupils in terms of shared values and personal behaviour.
We will also request a written report from a child’s current school.
5. Offer of a Place
Reception Entry:
Places for our Reception class are prioritised for siblings and then offered on a ‘first on the registration list’ basis. We usually start to offer places for Reception just over a year before planned entry, i.e. for September 2013 entry, we will begin offering places in June/July 2012.
The offer of a place can only be made by the Headmaster, by letter, and will be accompanied by a request for payment of a deposit of £2,000, which is set against the final term’s fees.
Hall School Wimbledon is fortunate to have the space to expand our Reception class should we experience increased demand for places.
Our Reception accommodation offers a number of flexible and attractive indoor and outdoor spaces. Reception children are not allocated to classes as such, and there is no target level of recruitment. Children may join in September or as ‘rising 5s’. Accordingly the Reception year may vary in size with staffing augmented to ensure adherence to a staff pupil ratio of 1:8.
Entry to Years 1 to 6:
The Admissions Team will collectively consider applications for occasional vacancies in Years 1 to 6 and will make a recommendation to the Headmaster whether or not to make an offer.
In the event that a place is not available for a suitable candidate, the applicant’s name will be entered on a short-term waiting list.
The offer of a place can only be made by the Headmaster, by letter, and will be accompanied by a request for payment of a deposit of £2,000, which is set against the final term’s fees.
6. Acceptance of a Place
Acceptance of the offer, receipt of the £2,000 deposit and agreement to our Terms and Conditions guarantees a place for your child at Hall School Wimbledon.
7. School Induction
Reception Entry:
In the Summer Term before entry to Hall School Wimbledon, we hold a Reception Induction Morning for all new pupils. This is an opportunity for the new Reception children to meet their classmates and their teachers, and to familiarise themselves with their new surroundings.
Parents will be offered refreshments in the Main Hall and provided with our Guidelines for Pupils and their Parents, which includes details about school uniform, school processes and procedures, and important contact numbers.
Entry to Years 1 to 6:
We do not usually provide an induction day for children joining the school in Years 1 to 6 as most will have spent some time at the school for assessment and observation. However, we would be happy to accommodate a visit for younger children in Years 1 and 2 if requested.
