Hall School Wimbledon admits pupils of a range of academic abilities, provided that they are judged capable of prospering within our school curriculum (mainstream academic). Pupils with Specific Learning Difficulties are admitted with the same proviso.
Hall School Wimbledon does not offer bursaries but may, occasionally, offer scholarships to gifted and talented children.
Ann Margaret Scholarships for the promotion of excellence and co-education at Hall School Wimbledon are awarded to girls for academic achievement and potential, for excellence and great promise in Art, Drama, Music or Sport, and for ‘all-round’ performance in at least two of the above. They are open to those sitting 11+ and apply for the duration of a child’s education at Hall School Wimbledon’s Senior School.
1. Initial Enquiry
Parents seeking further information about Hall School Wimbledon are advised to visit this website, request a prospectus, or contact our Admissions Office on 020 8394 6144.
2. Visiting the School
We encourage all prospective parents to visit Hall School Wimbledon prior to registering a child for the school. A visit to the school during a normal school day enables parents to see the children in their lessons, to meet the class teachers and to get a real feel for HSW life. It also provides the opportunity to ask further questions either about the school or specific to your child.
We offer regular Open Mornings for parents considering entry to Year 7 and individual or small group appointments for entry to Years 7 to 9.
See Visiting the School for further information.
3. Registration
Parents formally register their interest in the school by completing a registration form and returning it to our Admissions Office, together with a non-refundable registration fee of £50. One fee is payable per family and therefore subsequent applications for siblings do not require additional payment.
Children may be registered for the school at any time, although registration does not provide a guaranteed offer of a place. Registration forms are usually handed to parents when they visit the school.
Parents must declare if their son or daughter has a learning difficulty or other disability that may require specialist arrangements and should provide any relevant information or documentation.
4. Assessment
11+ (Year 7) Entry:
Hall School Wimbledon holds 11+ Assessment Days at the Senior School in January of the school year preceding planned entry to Year 7.
The Assessment Day comprises of a morning of written papers – English Comprehension, English Composition and Mathematics – followed by an afternoon of activities, which is designed to allow children to demonstrate different skills and talents.
11+ candidates are also invited to attend an interview with the Deputy Head of the Senior School. We will request a written report from a child’s current school.
Children already attending Hall School Wimbledon Junior School are usually offered a place at our Senior School. However, pupils will sit the 11+ Assessments in the school year preceding entry to Year 7 to ascertain ability levels and to ensure appropriate setting when they join their new peers in the Senior School.
Applications made after the Assessment dates will be considered on an individual basis and suitable candidates will be added to a waiting list.
Entry to Years 8 and 9:
Applicants for occasional vacancies in Years 8 and 9 are invited to visit the school to undertake assessments, which will typically include papers in English, Mathematics and Science. Children are also interviewed and may be asked to spend some time participating in lessons. This gives the school the opportunity to assess a child’s academic suitability and, at the same time, his or her compatibility with the other pupils in terms of shared values and personal behaviour.
We will also request a written report from a child’s current school.
It is very rare that we admit pupils into Years 10 or 11.
5. Offer of a Place
11+ (Year 7) Entry:
The Admissions Team will collectively consider applications for 11+ (Year 7) entry and will make a recommendation to the Headmaster whether or not to make an offer.
The offer of a place can only be made by the Headmaster, by letter, and will be accompanied by a request for payment of a deposit of £2,000, which is set against the last term’s fees.

Entry to Years 8 and 9:
The Admissions Office will collectively consider applications for occasional places in Years 8 and 9 and will make a recommendation to the Headmaster whether or not to make an offer.
