World Book Day: author Gareth P. Jones visits

To celebrate World Book Day, the children at the Junior School were excited to meet the award-winning author Gareth P Jones. Gareth is the author of the Dragon Detective Agency series of books. He is most famous for his book The Considine Curse, which won the Blue Peter Book of the Year 2012 and for The Thornthwaite Inheritance. He also writes a series of books called Ninja Meerkats and Pet Detectives. His most recent book is called Constable & Toop and it is a Victorian ghost story set in London, 1884.

Gareth hosted two fantastic, funny workshops for children where he talked about the wide variety of books he had written. As he spoke with all our aspiring authors he told them stories that had inspired his writing.  He was keen to answer all the questions the children asked about how to be a writer. He showed the children how he often created a piece of music that brought the characters to life. This helped them to see that you need a spark for your imagination to bring a blank page to life.

During the assembly he entertained children and staff by playing his ukulele and the piano as well as having everybody singing gleefully along with his songs.

Should you wish to hear any of his songs they can be found on his website:

We were excited to see the number of families who bought signed copies of his books. It is wonderful to see the children enjoying these imaginative stories.  Should you wish to enjoy any more of his books, the school has a selection in the library for you to enjoy.
