26th June 2020Success in the World Children’s Haiku Contest 2019-2020
The theme for the 16th World Children’s Haiku Contest 2019- 2020 was, aptly, “Sports”. (Haiku is traditionally a Japanese poem consisting of three short lines with seventeen syllables written in a 5/7/ 5 syllable count.)
Back in February, children in Years 5G and 6F set about composing some excellent Haiku, some of which were duly submitted to The Japan Society for consideration.
This week we heard that amongst entries from thousands of children around the world, Sophia Newton’s (6F) composition was placed in the runner up position. Her entry, alongside her stunning artwork, will be published in the content anthology Haiku By World Children, Volume 16.
Well done Sophia!
