Head’s blog – 29th April

I am so proud of our Year 11 students. They have conducted themselves with such maturity and have shown real grit during this long climb to the GCSE summit. Now, as we head into the Bank Holiday weekend, I hope they manage to find a moment to switch off, rest their brains and enjoy some social time. I know they have worked so hard revising in recent weeks, and will continue to do so, ably supported by their dedicated teachers (and parents!). I wish everyone well as we start the exams season. We couldn’t be more proud of you and we are right behind you, cheerleading and championing not only the academic successes that certainly await you, but also the ways in which you show us, everyday, that you are much more than the sum of your grades. What fine role models you have been for everyone who looks up to you.

I am delighted to use my piece this week to share an update on our exciting plans for the Sixth Form for September 2023. I have appointed our brilliant Head of Maths, Dr Richa Pareek, to the post of Assistant Head (Pupil Development, Transition and Sixth Form) for September. Dr Pareek will continue to head up our Maths department with enthusiasm and expertise, but as a former Assistant Principal of a school, with many years’ experience in school management and logistics, she will also bring so much to this new and important role. Dr Pareek has already started to lead on the Sixth Form project. She ran an information assembly for our Y10 pupils this week, sharing information on options after Year 11, entry requirements for sixth form and advice for contingency plans. (Pupils will have brought information home with them to discuss with their families). The next step is for us to run a Careers workshop in the week commencing 2nd May, and then we will be welcoming families to come and see us – either in person or on zoom – to discuss next steps together. I am grateful to Dr Pareek, and to Mr Dockery of course as Head of Y10-11, for their work in preparing our students for the road ahead. Exciting times.

Have a wonderful Bank Holiday with your families.

Yours,

A J Hammond
