This week saw the beginning of regular weekly visits to The Downs by Beavers Holt pupils. On Monday, Years 3 and 4 gathered excitedly in the IT Room where they enjoyed an introduction to coding.
After watching a demonstration on the classroom projector, the children logged on to the computers and started coding, giving instructions to an Angry Bird so that it could catch an annoying green pig in a maze! Interspersed with the exercises were words of inspiration from famous faces such as Bill Gates and Mark Zuckerberg.
Then on Wednesday, Years 5 and 6 spent the whole day at The Downs, beginning with Circuit Training with Years 7 and 8 and ending with sports at the Oberon Fields.
In between they visited the IT Room twice, once using the Lightbot coding program with Mr Lopez in Computer Studies and once with Mr Brook for Mathematics. Understandably there were a few nerves at the beginning of the day, but these quickly disappeared as the children became accustomed to the new surroundings and began to know their way around the buildings.
Mr Lopez tweeted several updates as the day progressed: check out the Twitter feed!
