Head’s blog – 15th November

The bitterly cold weather this week hasn’t chilled the warm spirit of fellowship for which The Hall is so well known. We are a warm-hearted, friendly bunch and the buzz about the school has been as restorative as ever. Cycling to school each morning has been bracing, but then standing on the gate to welcome everyone, I have been rejuvenated by the smiley faces beaming out of snugly hoods and beneath woolly hats. A bit of cold weather doesn’t put off a Haller!
There is a gearing-up quality to our activities right now, as we prepare for the usual end-of-term crescendo of exams, parents evenings, reports, Christmas celebrations, concerts, trips and festive fun thereafter. We still have a lot to squeeze in before we
finish, but thanks to the hard work of our staff, the brilliant support of our parents and the relentless energy and enthusiasm of our wonderful students, I know that we will keep going, despite the frosty mornings and darkening evenings. It is at times like these that our school shines brightest – when our culture of collaboration and fellowship generates a momentum that sees us through the cold times into the warmer, longer days on the other side of Winter.
Succeeding in school involves so much more than achieving high grades, important though they are; it requires self-discipline to throw off that cozy duvet on a wintery morning, get into uniform and out into the cold streets, but we can manage it when we know there is a warm welcome awaiting us on The Downs.
Keep warm and have a super weekend with your families.
