4th March 2019Major plans for Oberon Fields
Major plans are underway to transform not only the pavilion at Oberon, but also all the outdoor space. On Thursday, a landscaper viewed the area to draw up plans for the grounds. There will be discussions with the Sports Departments from both Juniors and Seniors to see how the fields can be used more effectively to offer the widest range of sports. We are also looking for local clubs to use the facilities at the weekend and during the holidays. The trees, especially towards the road side of the grounds will be pruned, the tennis court resurfaced and lined, and expanded to allow tennis and netball to use the hard-court area, a forest trail, with keep-fit activities, as well as forest school activities (don’t worry, we will provide the breadcrumbs!), play areas, an orchard and vegetable areas, so pupils learn the value of growing their own crops. And for the less sporty, it would be nice to have a full-size croquet lawn at the front of the whole area.
The pavilion itself, will have a total redecoration and repair, where needed, and the changing rooms upgraded. The central part will become a multi-purpose area, but mainly a drama studio and concert hall for productions and concerts. The kitchens alongside this room will be refurbished so that they can be used during events. It would be lovely to hope that most of this work could be finished in time for a summer ball there at the end of June.
There are good parking facilities at Oberon for such events, and for matches, but we may think about using it for staff during the daytime to park there and use a school minibus to shuttle them down to the school.
