I always say that learning cannot happen exclusively within the four walls of a classroom; we need to get out, experience life and explore our potential. True to this word, we have increased the number of educational trips and off-site activities by a huge number in the last year. Of these, surely one of the most exciting was the Young Voices choir trip to the O2 Arena on Monday this week, led by Mr Spoerer and Mrs Blees. From the photos and videos I have seen, it was a truly unforgettable experience, and one which I am sure will have been a spark to ignite a glittering career in music for some!
Creativity has been in abundance this week, as you will see from the newsletter below, not only in Art, where our Y9 students have been exploring stencils and silhouettes, but in
Science too, where our Y8 students have been dissecting and labelling flowers. It reminds me of the famous Da Vinci notebooks – where art and science converge, reminding us of the extraordinary capacities we have as humans (and exploding the old myth that we are either scientific or artistic, left-brain or right-brain thinkers!). Intelligence comes in myriad forms and the only limits to our potential are the self-imposed barriers we place on ourselves.
I hope you find time this weekend to go outside and see maths in nature, science in art.
